LESSON 7A – VOCABULARY: TRADITIONAL AND SOCIAL MEDIA

I. OBJECTIVES

By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:

- Talk about traditional and social media.

- Comprehend lexical items of media verbs and adjectives.

- Comparing traditional and social media.

2. Competences

- Develop communication skills and creativity

- Be collaborative and supportive in pair work and teamwork

Exercise 1 SPEAKING Look at the photos (A–D). Which of them are traditional media? (5 mins)

- Ask students to work in 4 groups.

- Focus attention on the photos and ask students to say what they know about these media, which they think are traditional ones.

- Randomly calls a student from every group to answer. The best answer gets 1 point. The team with the most points wins the game.

- Elicit some answers.

- Lead to the lesson.

- Follow teacher’s instruction.

Suggested answer:

Electronic television was first invented in September 1927 in San Francisco.

The first newspaper in the world Acta Diurna was published in Rome around 59 BC.

Twitter was created in March 2006 and launched in July of that year.

Instagram was launched in October 2010.

TV, newspapers are traditional media.

- Teacher observes the groups and gives feedback.

2. ACTIVITY 2: PRESENTATION (15 mins)

a. Objectives:

- Students learn the form, pronunciation and when to use vocabulary related to the topic.

b. Content:

- Pre- teach vocabulary

- Exercises 2 3 4 5 6.

c. Products:

- Students discuss with their friends, do exercises in the book, and say aloud the new vocabulary items.

Exercise 4 Match the highlighted words or phrases in the quiz with the words or phrases which share the same meaning in exercise 2. Remember to use the right form of the verbs.

- Tell students to look at the highlighted words or phrases in the quiz and find out the words or phrases in exercise 2 which are equivalent in meaning to them.

- Use the suitable forms of the verbs in exercise 2.

- Ask a few students to share their answers with the class.

- Check answers as a class.

- Follow teacher’s instructions.
